ST.LUCIA – Tourism officials are continuing to focus on making Saint Lucia the ideal cruise tourism destination for thousands of cruise ship passengers expected to disembark here between 2006 and 2007.
To this end the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) together with the Ministry of Tourism and the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority, will be hosting free training seminars in order to engender a culture of excellence in service delivery. The training will aim to enhance the skills of some four hundred front line service workers in the cruise tourism sector.
Cruise Tourism Officer Donna Regis says the industry must adequately prepare to accommodate the increased traffic. “We are committed to augmenting the skills of those workers and to deliver the highest level of satisfaction in our destination. As such the training is for persons currently involved in the cruise industry, it’s taxi drivers, tour guides, tour operators, vendors, duty free shop attendants, ports police who provide security on the various seaports, vendors, persons who provide ground transportation to cruise ship passengers, they will all be the target for this workshop.
“It’s a two part workshop: one will be specifically targeted at taxi drivers it’s called “Taxi Pride” and the other one is called “Customer Service Excellence” and it is really targeted at those persons who provide services other than taxi services.”
Officials also intend to work closely with the police to ensure the security and safety of visitors during their stay on island.
