St. Kitts’ PM Douglas gives US Government high praise for assistance in crime and security
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – Attorney General of the United States of America, the Hon. Eric Holder, is being thanked for his government’s support to St. Kitts and Nevis in tacking the issue of crime and security in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in remarks following a presentation by United States Attorney General, the Hon. Eric Holder, commended the Barak Obama Administration for their support especially in strengthening the federation’s prosecuting system by Mr. Major and sharing his best practices from his vast experience.
Prime Minister Douglas also commended the United States for providing the advanced digital fingerprinting information system that will boost crime detection capability and sharing information on gun related crimes and drug trafficking.
This Prime Minister Douglas told the 24th Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Heads of Government of CACRICOM in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, that this augurs well for an enhanced national and regional security system which Caribbean leaders and the United States are committed to within the framework of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI).
The Government of the United States was also commended for its assistance to St. Kitts and Nevis in addressing the challenges of gangs and youths at risk with the construction of the New Horizon Rehabilitation Centre at Harris’ in St. Kitts as well as the AGNAR programmes.
“We need to share programmes of this kind with our Caribbean colleagues given the very clear nexus between gangs, drugs and youth crime,” said Prime Minister Douglas during the plenary session o n “Strengthening the Regional Crime and Security.”
