St. Kitts next general election to be announced this week

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – An indication that the date for the next general election in St. Kitts and Nevis will be announced this week has come from Prime Minister Hon. Dr Denzil L. Douglas.

“Follow the star which later this week will tell you where you must come in order to know the date of the next election,” Dr. Denzil Douglas told a massive crowd at the Prime Minister’s Extravaganza at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium on Sunday night.

“That date is very, very close. You will be hearing the bell ring, not by us, but by 100 young people. 100 young people will ring the bell and start officially the campaign very shortly,” said the Prime Minister in brief remarks to the thousands.

The Prime Minister’s Extravaganza featured brief remarks by former Jamaica Prime Minister and one of the Caribbean’s leading statesman, the Most Honourable, Percival J. Patterson.

The Extravaganza is held the day after the Prime Minister’s New Year’s Gala which usually features the guest speaker and entertainers.

On stage were Trinidad’s calypso icon, Relator; Jamaica’s A.J. Brown and Tanya Stephens, who was in St. Kitts for a New Year’s concert.

Also appearing on stage were all the candidates of the ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.
