St. Kitts and Nevis’ Opposition Leader Douglas apologises to Prince Harry for snubbing by PM Harris 

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – The Federation’s erstwhile Statesman and Leader of the Opposition, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas issued an apology with regard to the no-show by Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris to welcome Her Majesty the Queen Representative, His Royal Highness Prince Harry on Wednesday, November 23rd.

“I want to use this opportunity on behalf of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party to welcome His Royal Highness Prince Harry of Wales to St. Kitts and Nevis. I believe that he was snubbed by the Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Harris and I also want to prefer my apology to His Highness for this kind on snubbing by Dr. Harris of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Dr. Douglas during the popular “Issues” programme on Freedom FM (106.5) and Kyss FM (102.5) and carried simultaneously.

Dr. Douglas, a Privy Councillor, noted that Prince Harry is on a Caribbean tour on behalf of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, the Second, this Nation’s Head of State, who is celebrating her 90th birthday this year.

“This morning hearing him speak glowingly at Brimstone Hill of his grandmother, I believe that Prince Harry expected to have met Dr. Harris when he came to St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Dr. Douglas.

Dr. Harris was also absent from other official events including the Cultural performance at the World Heritage Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, the visit to Nevis, the conferring of the knighthood on Sir Edmund Lawrence, who was booted from the office of Governor General by Dr Harris when took office as prime minister and a reception at Government House hosted by Sir Edmund’s successor, Sir Tapley Seaton.

A government statement Tuesday (Nov. 22nd) said Prime Minister Harris had travelled since Sunday to the Philippines to receive a personal award from a private foundation.
