St. Kitts gets a new Speaker of the National Assembly

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – The St. Christopher and Nevis National Assembly in St. Kitts gets a new Speaker on Friday, April 18.

Vice President of Human Resource at Cable and Wireless (St. Kitts and Nevis) Limited, Mr. Curtis Martin, is expected to be elected Speaker of the lawmaking body during a regular session. The sitting will be convened following a Special Session called to pay tribute to his predecessor, Hon. Marcella Liburd.

According to the Order Paper circulated by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr. Jose Lloyd, the Deputy Speaker and Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) Parliamentarian, Hon. Patrice Nisbett, will preside over the start of the sitting.

Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister and Labour Party Parliamentarian, Hon. Sam Condor is expected to nominate Mr. Martin as Speaker.

The governing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party holds 7 of the 11 seats in the National Assembly and is expected to get the support of the elected members on the Opposition representing the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) and the People’s Action Movement (PAM).

Following the election of the new Speaker, the Oath of Allegiance will be administered.
