Guy R. Brewer United Democratic Club Hosts Annual Gala Honoring Community Service

New York – One of New York City’s oldest and most active political organizations, The Guy R. Brewer United Democratic Club, hosts their 55th Anniversary Dinner Dance on Friday, May 21st with guest of honor Comptroller John C. Liu.

Billed as THE political event of the year in South East Queens, the gala will award “2010 Community Service Honorees” at 8:00PM at Antun’s, 96-43 Springfield Blvd, Queens Village, NY. To purchase tickets, call Donald Vernon at 718-206-2411. Contribution is $80 per person.

“The fifty-fifth anniversary of The Guy R. Brewer United Democratic Club marks a milestone occasion in New York City politics; reminding us how important it is for African-Americans to remain engaged and active in the political landscape,” stated Club Director Donald Vernon. “The Club not only supports local candidates, but assists with community and civic issues as well. It is my hope that everyone who can will support The Guy R. Brewer United Democratic Club by purchasing a ticket and joining me at my table on May 21st for a fun-filled night of dining and dancing.”

This year’s event honors “2010 Community Service Honorees,” including Pamela Bluford, Donald Boncouer, Mary Covington, Barbara A. Felker, Dorothy Harvey, Rev. Dr. Henry T. Simmons, Sr., and Sandra Smith for their contributions.

Founded in 1955, The Guy R. Brewer United Democratic Club is led by Executive Leaders Hon Dora H. Young and Hon. Archie Spigner. Officers of the St. Albans, Queens Club include Margaret Kirkland, Manuel Caughman, Jack Tennyson, Ruby Gibbs, Audrey Sparks-Fussa, Timothy James and Jean Phelps.
