St. Kitts and Nevis ready to host 6th Petro Caribe Summit

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – St. Kitts and Nevis gets ready to host several Presidents and Prime Ministers at one of the most significant Summits in the history of the twin-island Federation.

St. Kitts and Nevis hosts the 6th PetroCaribe Summitt at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and Royal Beach Casino on Friday 12th June.

The one-day Summit will be co-hosted by St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas and President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, His Excellency Hugo Chavez.

Expected are President of the Republic of Cuba, His Excellency Raul Castro; President of Guatemala, His Excellency Alvaro Colom Caballeros; President of Haiti, His Excellency Rene Preval; President of Nicaragua, His Excellency Daniel Ortega; the President of Honduras, His Excellency Jose Zelaya Rosales and the President of the Dominican Republic, His Excellency Dr. Leonel Fernandez.

Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, the Hon. Baldwin Spencer; Prime Minister of Dominica, the Hon. Roosevelt Skerritt; Prime Minister of Guyana, the Hon. Samuel Hinds; Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Hon. Bruce Golding and Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves.

The Bahamas will be represented by Minister of Economic Development, Hon. Erwin Contreas; Belize by Minister of the Economy, Hon. Erwin Contreas; Grenada by the Minister Finance and Energy, the Hon. Nazim Burke; Dominican Republic by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Carlos Morales; St. Lucia by Foreign Minister, the Hon. Rufus Bousquet and Suriname by Minister of Energy, Hon. Gregory Ruisand.

The Summit will be preceded by a meeting on Thursday 11th June of Ministers responsible for Energy. Delegates to the Ministers of Energy Meeting, which will be chaired by St. Kitts and Nevis Minister responsible for Energy, Dr. the Hon. Earl Asim Martin, began arriving Wednesday.

Over 260 persons are expected to attend the Ministerial Meeting and Summit.
