St. Kitts and Nevis leads in exports to the United States

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – St. Kitts and Nevis continues to be the leading exporter of goods and services to the United States than all the OECS independent nations combined.

According to foreign trade statistics issued by the US Census Bureau, exports from St. Kitts and Nevis to the United States for the first six months of this year were valued at US$25.7 million or EC$69.4 million, while the combined exports of St. Lucia, Grenada, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines amounted to US$17.2 million or EC$46.4 million.

For the first six months of this year, Antigua and Barbuda exported US$2.3 million (EC$6.2 million) to the United States; Dominica, US$800,000 (EC$2.1 million); Grenada, US$4.5 million (EC$12.1 million); St. Lucia, US$9 million (EC$24.3 million); and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, US$600,000 (EC$1.62 million).

Exports to the US from the British Virgin Islands (BVI) for the first six months of this year totalled US$13.6 million; Anguilla, US$900,000 and Montserrat, US$100,000.

Barbados exported US$15.6 million in goods and services to the United States for the first six months of this year.

St. Kitts and Nevis also leads the OECS in goods and services in 2009 with a value of nearly US$50 million.

St. Kitts and Nevis exports last year were valued at US$48.4 million compared to Antigua and Barbuda, US$9.3 million; Anguilla, US$5.2 million; Dominica, US$2.8 million; Grenada, US$5.8 million; St. Lucia, US$17.5 million; Montserrat, US$900,000; St. Vincent and the Grenadines, US$1.2 million; British Virgin Islands, US$6.8 million and Barbados, US$32.8 million.
