St. Kitts and Nevis congratulates Trinidad and Tobago on its 50th Anniversary

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – As the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago celebrates its 50th Anniversary of Independence, St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has told his counterpart in Port of Spain that the “milestone also presents the opportunity to confront the numerous challenges which lie in the path of economic and social development.”

“I am convinced that a strategy based on drawing inspiration from the rich legacy of your predecessors and your vision for your proud people will lead you along the path to success,” Dr. Douglas told Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister the Hon. Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

Dr. Douglas in his congratulatory message to mark the milestone said fifty years of Independence is indeed a remarkable achievement.

“One which affords the opportunity to reflect on your accomplishments, (including your most recent successes at the London Olympic Games), and face the future with a strong sense of optimism and pride. Our Government salutes you for the sterling leadership role that Trinidad and Tobago has played in enhancing the regional integration programme,” said Dr. Douglas.

He added: “I take great pleasure in saluting you, your Government and the wonderful people of Trinidad and Tobago on this momentous occasion – your fiftieth anniversary of Independence! I greet you on behalf of the Government and people of the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, which I have the honour to lead. May God continue to bless you and the people of Trinidad and Tobago as you forge ahead with the mantle of leadership of your proud nation! Reiterated best wishes for a happy golden anniversary of Independence!”
