St. Kitts and Nevis congratulates Antigua and Barbuda’s Baldwin Spencer

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has joined regional governments in congratulating Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Hon. Baldwin Spencer on his recent re-election victory.

“The peaceful electoral process in which your country engaged on March 12, 2009 is a hallmark of true democracy for which our region is widely revered. May its outcome, which entitles you to a second term in office, continue to bear evidence of your commitment to your beloved people and country,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

Dr. Douglas told Prime Minister Spencer that he has returned to the helm at a most critical time – globally, the financial crisis looms large and recently “our islands have been threatened by a spate of gruesome and heinous gang-related crimes.”

Prime Minister Douglas, who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs, said he looks forward to continued good collaboration as St. Kitts and Nevis and Antigua and Barbuda “implement strategies to confront these and other challenges that are of mutual interest to both of our countries and the region as a whole.
