MIRAMAR – On Saturday, March 25th, 2017, St. George’s College Old Boys defeated the Jamaica College Old Boys to win the Dennis Ziadie Cup.
The Jamaica College over-45 team and the St. George’s College over-45 team played to a 0-0 draw in the Grand Masters match. In the Under-45 Masters match, St. George’s College defeated Jamaica College 1-0 in a very competitive game.
The 2017 Ziadie Cup trophy was awarded to St. George’s College based on an aggregate score of both matches with 1-0.
All Girls Schools Alumnae Penalty Kick-off
The Meadowbrook High School Alumni Association defeated the Immaculate Conception High School Alumnae Association to emerge as the winner in the Grace Kennedy Remittance Services/ Western Union All Girls Schools Alumnae Penalty Kick-off.
The competition was fierce taking 3 rounds to determine a winner.
Boys Schools Alumnae Penalty Kick-off
This year a Boys Schools Alumnae Penalty Kick-off was added to True Blue Weekend. The event was also sponsored by Grace Kennedy Remittance Services/ Western Union. Kingston Technical Past Students Association emerged as the winner beating Cornwall College Alumni Association. Grace Kennedy Remittance Services/ Western Union will make $100 cash donation to the winning schools and $50 cash donation to the second place schools.
The day’s events also included a Jamaica Masters vs Jamaica All Stars soccer match.
Kids and adults participated in sack races, three-legged races and, Spoon/egg races. The races were organized by radio personality Leo Gilling and the St Hilda’s alumni association.
In attendance at the True Blue/Dennis Ziadie Cup Soccerfest was Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam, Jamaica Consul General Franz Hall and Jamaica College Foundation President, Christopher Williams. Each greeted the attendees and paid tribute to Dennis Ziadie.
Friends from Jamaican high schools were able to reunite and enjoy the fun filled 3-day True Blue Weekend of events. The festivities included a Kick-off Party at Grand Cafe in Pembroke Pines, the annual Ziadie Cup held at the state-of-the-art soccer facility at Vizcaya Park and the True Blue Brunch at Roun A Goosey, fine dining Jamaican restaurant. It was a weekend of fun, friends, food and exciting soccer matches.
