Sparrow and other Legends to perform on Multi-Cultural Show celebrating Caribbean Heritage in South Florida
MIRAMAR – Caribbean music, dance, comedy and other cultural art forms will take center stage at the Miramar Cultural Arts Theatre on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21, at 4:00 p.m. in celebration of Caribbean-American Heritage Month.
The Calypso King of the World, the Mighty Sparrow, will be the featured performer along with Grenada’s Calypso King, Ajamu, Jamaican Comedian Chris Daley, Bahamian singer Ancient Man, Tasssa Drummers, Spoken Word artists, Rhythm Force Reggae band, Comedian Fatman George from Grenada and South Florida’s Body Nation Dancers.

The Caribbean-American Multi-Cultural Extravaganza will be a nostalgic evening featuring legends of Caribbean entertainment as well as rising stars presenting an unforgettable show of absolute delight highlighting the culture of the Caribbean.
Slinger Francisco, better known as The Mighty Sparrow, is the unrivaled Calypso King of the World, with a career that spans over 40 years. The Mighty Sparrow has proved himself as the Quintessential Calypsonian, with over seventy (70) albums to his credit and an amazing ability to entertain while making social commentary with his lyrics as he commands the body to move to his appealing melodies. The legendary calypsonian will be performing with his band and plans to leave his audience begging for more.
Also Appearing is Grenada’s Calypso King, Ajamu, who holds the unprecedented title as the seven-time Grenada Calypso Monarch. Ajamu continues to make outstanding musical contributions generating hit after hit. Standing at just 5ft 7inches, this musical giant is adept in Calypso, Soca, Parang and Reggae. Ajamu will have everyone dancing in their seats.
Christopher “Johnny” Daley is a seasoned Entertainer, well known in film, television, radio, theatre and comedy circles. He last appeared in Florida in Aston Cooke’s Jamaica 2 Rahtid – Pupalick and will certainly entertain with his stand up comedy. Well known Grenadian stand up comic Fatman George is no stranger to Caribbean comedy and he too will have the audience in stitches.
Florida-based Rhythm Force Band will feature Benaiah and Kenyatta, on vocals, belting out a variety of classic hits and original compositions that has made them one of the hottest bands on the scene today. Their hard-driving high energy performance will mesmerize the audience transforming the show into a sing along.
Bahamian singer Ancient Man, The Body Nation Dancers and Tassa Drummers will add color and verve to the diversified program.
The Multi-Cultural Extravaganza will be a culmination of activities, beginning with a Commemorative Gala, June 18, honoring Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott and Professor Emeritus Rex Nettleford celebrating Caribbean-American Heritage Month by The Caribbean-American Heritage Foundation, The Caricom Consular Corp, The City of Miramar, Jamaica Awareness and FLASC.
Other activities include A Laureate Conversation on Friday, June 19 and the Caribbean-American Book & Art Fair on Saturday, all at the Miramar City Center Arts Park, located at 2300-2600 Civic Center Place, Miramar.
