South Florida’s Jamaican Children’s Heart Fund (JCHF) save 7 children in Jamaica
HOLLYWOOD – The Jamaican Children’s Heart Fund (JCHF) open heart surgical team returned on Sunday, March 4th, after a week of surgeries in Jamaica. Seven indigent children between the ages of 2mths to 16yrs, received lifesaving open heart surgery last week at the University Hospital, Mona, Jamaica.
The JCHF medical mission team is from the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Over the past 12 years, they have provided this gift of life to 116 children in Jamaica.
Jamaican Children’s Heart Fund Inc (JCHF) headed by Dr. Richard Perryman, Cardiothoracic Surgeon, are passionate advocates for the wellbeing of all children, but more so, those who do not have the means to obtain the needed healthcare.
Each year an average of 200 children are born with congenital heart defects in Jamaica. JCHF is one of two visiting open heart surgical teams, which are able to provide the needed surgery for an average of 30 cases combined annually. The already extensive waiting list increases in number each year and unfortunately without increased missions annually, some die before help arrives.
JCHF is a not-for-profit 501c3 medical charity. The Jamaican Children’s Heart Fund Inc. is currently the only open heart surgical mission’s team which provides the surgery free of cost to indigent families, while accepting no compensation of any kind. The organization needs the support, partnership and donations to save the lives of these children in Jamaica.
