South Florida Unites For Immigrant Rights

ORGANIZATIONS OF THE FLORIDA IMMIGRANT COALITION WILL HOST A MARCH FOR IMMIGRANT RIGHTS AND CO-HOST A TOWN HALL MEETING WITH SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN TO SUPPORT FAIR AND EQUAL IMMIGRANT REFORM

MIAMI – Over the next few months, Congress is expected to adopt the most substantial immigration changes in 20 years. These changes will directly impact the nearly 3 million immigrant residents of Florida and major industries including agriculture, tourism, construction and trade.

February 18, 11 a.m.

March in Unity and Equality for Immigration Reform, Miami

Immigrant rights supporters will gather at Bayfront Park and March to the Freedom Tower and back before holding a rally at Bayfront. The event will call on federal officials to disavow recently passed, anti-immigrant “Sensenbrenner bill” (H.R. 4437) and call on them to support the Secure America & Orderly Immigration Act (McCain/Kennedy bill). A walk to raise money for Catholic Charities will take place before the event from 9-11. For more information call 305-758-3301.

Town Hall Meeting and Rally with Senator John McCain

Rally with Senator John McCain in support of the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act with hundreds of supporters from the faith, business, labor and community sectors united for comprehensive immigration reform. Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC) is a statewide network of over 50 immigrant member organizations that promote, through a unified voice, fair treatment and policies for Florida’s immigrants.

Floridians from across the spectrum understand the fundamental significance of these changes. “This is not a campaign for immigrants, it is a movement for civil rights and defending of common human values” says Ramon Saul Sanchez of Movimiento Democracia. Winnie Cantave, Director of Unite for Dignity adds, “Haitians, Latinos and immigrants throughout Florida are united to ensure these reforms provide us with the dignity and respect we deserve.”
