South Florida to celebrate “Jamaica Diaspora Day”

FT. LAUDERDALE – In concert with the commemoration of Caribbean-American Heritage Month, Jamaicans throughout the region will celebrate Jamaican Diaspora Day, on Saturday, June 16, 2pm – 7pm.

The Jamaican Diaspora Southern United States will host a Health Awareness & Celebrity/Media Mini Sports Day at Delevoe Park next to the African-American Research Library, 2650 Sistrunk Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.

The fun filled family day will feature some of the Caribbean community’s favorite media personalities, community leaders, local celebrities, and Consuls General competing in nostalgic sports games, such as, the three-legged race, sack sack race, backward sprints, egg & spoon race, and much more.

The top billed featured race will be “Who is the Fastest Caribbean Consul General in the Southern US?”

North Broward Hospital District representatives will be distributing health information on prostate and breast cancer awareness, high blood pressure, diabetes, mental health and other health issues affecting minority communities. Several radio stations will broadcast live.

All Jamaicans, as well as persons of Caribbean descent, and friends of the Caribbean are welcome to attend.
