Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) Sponsor National Caribbean-American Student Leadership Conference

Washington, DC – The Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) to sponsor National Caribbean-American Student Leadership Conference in celebration of the launching of National Caribbean-American Heritage Month – June 2006

This ground-breaking Conference will take place on Friday, June 23rd from 9am – 6pm at New York University, 40 Washington Square South. The theme of the conference will be “Developing Future Leaders: Perspectives of Caribbean American Success Stories”. The conference will showcase Caribbean-Americans who have made a positive impact on the social, economic, and political development of this country. Our goal is to inspire the students to become leaders themselves and to play an active role in shaping their society.

On February 14, 2006 the US Senate approved House Concurrent Resolution 71 declaring June as Caribbean-American Heritage Month. As the Bill awaits the President’s signature, ICS will commemorate this historical milestone by sponsoring its First Annual Caribbean-American Heritage Month Student Leadership Conference.

The Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that was established in 1993. Its main purpose is to address economic, educational, technological, and social issues that impact the Caribbean Community.

The ICS hopes that the young leaders will take with them a stronger sense of community and self empowerment. Speakers from various professions such as business professionals, politicians, social activists and celebrities will be in attendance. Everyone is welcome to attend and registration will be available online at www.cahmslc.org.
