South Florida Groups Collaborate for Jamaican Orphanage

FT. LAUDERDALE – South Florida based organization, Angels of Love will visit the children of the Glenhope Children Home of Safety Nursery in Kingston Jamaica October 7-11, 2011 for Project Glenhope.

Project Glenhope

This project for 2011 is a planned extended weekend of play therapy and fun for the children of Glenhope Children Home of Safety Nursery.

The Nursery consists of 17 infants and 49 children from toddler to eight years old. Twenty Five of those children attend basic and primary schools.

A team of doctors and loving volunteers lead by Ms. Marcia Brevett will be spending their days giving the attention and love these babies crave.

The team will also bring much needed supplies such as diapers, wipes, toys, book bags, toiletries, clothes etc.

Without nutrient of (any kind) we die, and the human need for attention is no different.

This is shown by a horrific experiment in the Middle Ages by the German Emperor, who had newborn babies removed from their parents and cared for by nurses who fed and cleaned them but were under strict instructions not to touch, talk or give them any attention whatsoever …all the babies died from lack of attention before reaching talking age.

The Need

The needs of the children in Glenhope Children Home Nursery are great. Due to limited staff, the babies spend most of the 24 hours of each day in their cribs and only taken out to be fed, given baths and have their diapers changed.

Glenhope is in need of more people working with the children, giving them the attention that any growing child needs. Attachment disorder is a great concern due the negative results that often times occurs when a child is lacking in personal attention, warmth and play time.

Another important area of concern is the lack of exercise and movement given to the Babies. The need for nutritional food needs to be addressed as well.

Abandoned Baby Syndrome

• Anxiety: Cuddling develops the nervous system and builds self-worth and trust in people. Later in life, those abandoned babies often develop addictions and anxiety disorders

• Depression: Babies mourn when left alone for long periods of time. The lack of touch and attention may result in a life-long sense of unworthiness and sadness.

• Aggression: Many children become nasty and rebellious in their attempt to achieve a sense of power and win precious drops of attention.
