South Florida Debut Screening of the Award Winning Film Why Do Jamaicans Run So Fast? – July 10th

Miramar – The award-winning film, Why Do Jamaicans Run So Fast, featuring super sprinter Usain Bolt, has captured the hearts of fans and film critics worldwide. The first U.S. public presentations of this acclaimed film are set for Saturday, July 10, inside the magnificent Miramar Cultural Center, Miramar, Florida.
Tickets for the 2 p.m. show are $6, and $10 for the 8:30 p.m. event.

Produced by Jamaica-based Nice Time Productions, the film received Best Production about the Olympic Games Award at the Barcelona International FICTS Festival in June 2010.

Spanish-born producer Fernando Garcia-Guereta and director Miguel Galofre received the Guirlande D’Honnour at Italy’s Milano International Film Festival, Best Film and Best Director at Palermo’s Sport Film Festival, and received a Best Documentary nomination at the Black American Film Festival in Miami in 2009.

“I’ve always said to myself, anything is possible…” Usain Bolt, fastest man in the world. The 60-minute film chronicles the accomplishments of Gold Medial-winning Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt, Shelly Ann Fraser, Asafa Powell, Veronica Campbell, and Melanie Walker at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Set against a Jamaican backdrop, scenes include interviews with the athletes, their families, Reggae and Dancehall artists, government and athletic community officials, and fans of all ages. In his first film, Garcia-Guereta captures the reactions and emotions of his adopted country–Jamaica–as it witnesses history. This entertaining story is enhanced with classic and new reggae songs, produced in part by Nice Time Productions.

A portion of the proceeds will support Jamaica Arts Development Foundation, a Florida-based nonprofit corporation [pending], with a mission to create educational and developmental opportunities for Jamaica’s arts and entertainment community worldwide. The aim is to implement programs and activities geared toward arts education, management, and creative excellence.
