“Soca The Vote” Campaign Urges Caribbean-Americans To Make A Historic Impact on November General Election
SOUTH FLORIDA – With only one more week of early voting remaining prior to the November 4th midterm General Elections, the non-partisan grassroots “Soca The Vote” campaign is urging the thousands of registered Caribbean-American citizens to make a historic impact on the Fall election cycle.
After multiple generations, thousands of immigrants from countries such as Haiti, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, among others, have populated the American landscape in numerous states across America. Through their diverse culture and contributions in education, health care, sports, and politics, Caribbean-Americans are increasingly visible in American news and history.
In local communities, like Broward County, Florida, Caribbean-Americans comprise a significant percentage (over 25%) of the 1,100,000 million registered voters. As a result, any increased participation from Caribbean Americans could have a transformational impact on any local or statewide election. Similarly, Caribbean Americans have similarly high percentages in Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Orange Counties in Florida.
Politics impacts the life of every family regardless of their race, religion, or national origin. Political decisions are made with or without a citizen’s participation. Each day, elected officials make decisions on the education system, infrastructure for transportation, development of housing, among many other issues, regardless of a citizen’s decision to vote. Caribbean-Americans have a choice to be involved in these important decisions.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Wednesday, October 29, 5pm, early voting continues until November 2 (at various times and convenient locations), and the final Election Day on Tuesday, November 4th, 7am – 7pm.
