MIAMI – Launched in 2004, the Soca D’ Vote.com campaign kicked-off the 2007-2008 election season this past Saturday, April 14 with a new music track (Riddim).
Produced by renowned Trinidadian artist and producer, Nigel Lewis, the new Soca D’ Vote theme song carries a more up-tempo beat with the message of encouraging Caribbean-Americans to register to vote and let their voices be heard.
The new music track world premiered on the D’ Peoples Politics feature at 4pm on Caribbean Riddims and at 6pm on Caribbean Crossroads on News/Talk 1080AM.
Caribbean-Americans are becoming a greater part of the American fabric through their contributions in academia, sports, culture, business — and even politics. Although many Caribbean-Americans — estimated at over 4 million citizens in the United States (from around the English, Creole, Spanish and Dutch speaking Caribbean) residing in Florida, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Georgia, Texas, Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee, and California — are eligible to vote, many do not bother to register or participate in the electoral process.
“Every Caribbean-American citizen over the age of 18 is eligible to register and vote. We should not wait to let our voices be heard. It is our time now!” exclaimed Nigel Lewis, producer of the Soca D’ Vote theme song.
All Caribbean-American cultural, religious, educational, sports, community, charitable, and media representatives and organizations across the United States are encouraged to remind others to register to vote at http://www.socadvote.com or http://www.socathevote.com.
“Politics impacts the life of every American citizen regardless of our race, religion, or national origin. Political decisions are made with or without a citizen’s participation. Our vote is the voice of our democracy,” noted attorney Marlon A. Hill, past president of the Caribbean Bar Association.
The Soca D’ Vote campaign is a non-partisan grassroots initiative to foster greater civic awareness and voter education in the Caribbean Diaspora.
