Soca meets Reggae, Hip Hop at 2K7 Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – She’s known for sizzling hits like “Raggamuffin,” “Roll it Gal,” “AYE AYE AYE,” “Twister” and “Faluma.” And come July 20th, the ‘Queen Of Soca’ will get ready for an ‘Evolution,’ as she performs on the same stage with Hip Hop legend, LL Cool J as well as other top reggae icons.

The English-born, Bajan Queen Alison Hinds is gearing up to take the temperature in Jamaica a lot higher that night and the Sumfest crowd is sure to revel in the soca party of hip swiveling, flag waving, bacchanal loving action.

Hinds is known widely for her titillating performances that is sure to set off “Fireworks” and take her audience on a ride.

Hinds produced her first hit in the year 1996, “Ragamuffin, which won the Barbados’ Crop Over Festival. The following year she repeated that win and also added The Party Monarch title with “Twister,” making history across the island as the first woman to ever win these titles in Barbados.

This led to Hinds’ role as the lead singer in the band Square One. Hinds has since moved on, and now has her own band, “The Alison Hinds Show.” She has also done a collaboration with the soca “King,” Machel Montano.

Also set to perform at Evolution are Beres Hammond, Buju ‘The Driver’ Banton, Morgan Heritage, Da’Ville, Etana and Christopher Martin.

Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest kicks off on Sunday July 15th, with a Beach Party featuring the Fab 5 band as well as popular sound systems and deejays. It continues on Thursday July 19th with Xplosion featuring Beenie Man, Bounty Killa, Cham, Elephant Man, Movado, Lady Saw, Vybz Kartel, Vegas, Anthony B, Chuck Fenda, Wayne Marshall, Macka Diamond, Ninja Man, Voice Mail, Busy Signal, Aidonia, Gyptian, Lutan Fyah, Kip Rich and Munga Honourable.

The curtains come down on the reggae party of the year on Saturday July 21st with Blige, Tanya Stephens, Tarrus Riley, Cherine Anderson, Tessanne Chin and Richie Spice.
