Secretary General Congratulates New Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago

WASHINGTON – The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, has written to the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar to congratulate her on the victory of the People’s Partnership in Monday’s General Election in Trinidad and Tobago and her historic election as the country’s first female Prime Minister. Secretary General Insulza also expressed his pleasure that “the elections were peaceful and that all stakeholders appear to have accepted the will of the people”.

Trinidad and Tobago has been an active and committed member of OAS for several decades and the Secretary General is looking forward to working with Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar and her new Government to advance the hemispheric agenda in areas such as security, development and democracy.
