School of Holistic Therapies to Launch in Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The long awaited international School of Holistic Therapies offering programmes in the Health and Wellness industry through ITEC (UK) certification, will launch in Jamaica on December 4, 2015. The historical event will be hosted by PBHC Jamaica, School of Holistic Therapies and held at Coconut Grove Shopping Complex (Unit 18), Ocho Rios, between 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

The initial Training project was conceptualized by Patricia Berry, Principal of PBHC School Inc., Barbados and the Barbados Coalition of Service Industries Inc. which foreshadowed this event, is part of the vision of the CARTFund Health and Wellness Project that seeks to equip countries within CARIFORUM with the competencies and standards to create products of excellence in the wellness sector.

The first graduating class of PBHC Jamaica, comprised of ten graduates, who completed the programme and received their Holistic Massage Diplomas from the International Therapy Education Council on March 14, 2015. It is important to note that the ten students from Jamaica all received distinctions in their practical exams, a first in ITEC history. Colleagues in Belize, Dominica, and Trinidad & Tobago also completed the six-month course of study and received their International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC) certification. Over 40 students  in the Caribbean have received the ITEC qualification to date.

Jamaica’s thrust towards standards development was crystallized when the Bureau of Standards Jamaica’s Spa Standards Development Steering Committee’s final draft was accepted, and placed through the approval process. The result of which was then issued to CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) for use within the Caribbean.

The launch signals the readiness of PBHC to upgrade to international standards Health & Wellness therapists who desire to be at the top of their careers and to earn top salaries on par with their US and UK counterparts.  “ITEC qualifications are the best way to start careers in the Beauty, Hairdressing, Complementary Therapy, Sports industries and Customer Service Business.” (itecworld.co.uk)

PBHC Jamaica offering ITEC certification will be operated by Patricia Berry Greenidge of Barbados and Janice McLeod of Jamaica. Classes will begin in January 2016 in the beautiful resort town of Ocho Rios, the perfect place to study and vacation.
