Sail to Jamaica’s Lively Swim-Up Bars and Iconic Waterfalls on an Island Routes Reggae Cruise

Montego Bay, Jamaica – Island Routes Caribbean Adventure Tours continues an award-winning tradition of showcasing what is unique in each of its destinations with a new cruise on Jamaica’s unspoiled South Coast. The Island Routes Pelican Bar Highlight cruise on the sleek Soul Rebel catamaran sails to the famed Floyde’s Pelican Bar, a swim-up bar in the extreme.

Located in Parottee Bay, about a mile offshore, it must be a mistake – just some floating coconut thatch and driftwood – but as the Soul Rebel draws closer a shape takes form – stilts and tree trunks rising out of the water, twisted stairs and rough-and-ready dock. This is Floyde’s Pelican Bar, accessible only by boat and one of the Caribbean’s most unique experiences. Here on an isolated sandbar, guests can go for a swim with a colorful array of underwater denizens, sunbathe, or head up into the shade of this crazy Jamaican tiki hut to leave their mark: names carved into weathered wood, flags, hats, even license plates.

Back onboard, the Soul Rebel’s space-age hull and soaring mast guarantees an unbelievably smooth ride. Guests learn a few of the latest dance moves as the Soul Rebel DJ spins reggae rhythms while the Island Routes Tours crew mixes up premium-brand cocktails and serves gourmet hors d’oeuvres. The Pelican Bar Highlight cruise wouldn’t be an Island Routes signature voyage without snorkeling and it delivers with a beach stop at the picturesque Font Hill.

“The Island Routes Pelican Bar Highlight cruise is the first in a series of new experiences we are creating for our guests who want to relax and enjoy a catamaran experience and still have a unique destination adventure,” says David L. Shields, General Manager of Island Routes Caribbean Adventure Tours. “This is an important element that showcases the diversity of our tour offerings — and what sets Island Routes Tours apart in each of our Caribbean outposts.”

In addition to the South Coast, Island Routes Caribbean Adventure Tours’ fleet of state-of-the-art catamarans also set sail from Jamaica’s other cradles of cool — Negril, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios on the North Coast. Sailing from Negril, the Kool Katt Kelly presents Ricks Café, home of the legendary cliff divers and then it’s on to the clear waters of Bloody Bay for snorkeling. Montego Bay’s Red Locks circles the Montego Bay Marine Sanctuary for snorkeling and then off to “find a lost shaker of salt” at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. The iconic Dunn’s River Falls is the Island Routes Reggae Cruise destination from Ocho Rios, where guests climb Jamaica’s most recognizable natural wonder.

Rates for the Island Routes Pelican Bar Highlight start at $85.00, adults only, age 18 and up. Island Routes Reggae Cruises start at $75.00 per adult age 12 and up, and $60.00 for children ages 2-11; South Coast Reggae Cruise is adults only, age 18 and up.
