Respect Jamaica 50th & Jamaica House Launch in London

LONDON – A week after its official launch in Jamaica, the Respect Jamaica 50th live concert series and Jamaica House 2012 launched in London on Monday, June 18, 2012 at the offices of the Jamaica High Commission on Prince Consort Road in London.

Present at the launch were her Excellency Aloun Assamba, as well as representatives from JAMPRO, the Jamaica High Commission, Jamaica Tourist Board, Jamaica 50 Secretariat, AEG Live, members of the media and invited guests.

On Monday, June 11th, the two events were launched on at the Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston under the collaborative efforts of the ministries of tourism, culture and industry.

The Respect Jamaica 50th concert is being co-organized by AEG Live and the Jamaica 50 Secretariat and will be staged at the Indig02 in the 02 Arena in London from July 26 – August 6, 2012. The concert will see performances from the best Jamaican artistes over the last 50 years. Some of the artistes booked to perform are icons such as Jimmy Cliff, Toots & the Maytals, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Derrick Morgan, Marcia Griffiths, Yellowman, Sly & Robbie, among others.

Jamaica House 2012’ will be staged in the North Greenwich Arena (The 02) from August 3 – 12, 2012 and is organized by JAMPRO, Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and the Jamaica 50 Secretariat.

This initiative represents a key component of the country’s marketing and promotional activities in the UK. Jamaica House will seek to capture the essence of the island, highlighting its natural beauty, rich and vibrant culture, strong sporting tradition, high quality products, compelling business value proposition, and the warmth and creativity of the people.

Judy McCluskey of McCluskey International, the Jamaica Tourist Board’s PR Consultancy, discussed what the media can expect at Jamaica House.


At the launch of Jamaica House in London, Sally Davies, AEG Europe’s venue director for The O2 arena in London, discussed the expectations and plans for the Respect Jamaica 50th Live Concert Series, which is being organized by AEG Live and the Jamaica 50 Secretariat.


Jason Hall deputy director of Cruise Attraction and Events, the Jamaica Tourist Board, High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Aloun Assamba, Dr Dana Morris Dixon, vice-president of planning and corporate development at JAMPRO and Robert Bryan, Project Director of the Jamaica 50 Secretariat were all key speakers at the launch of Jamaica House 2012 in London.
