Reggae star Buju Banton drug case transferred to Tampa

MIAMI – In a Miami federal courtroom bail hearing on Wednesday (Dec. 16) morning Jamaican Reggae artist, Buju Banton (Mark Anthony Myrie) and his attorney, Herbert E. Walker III agreed to have his drug charge case transferred from Miami to Tampa.

According to his attorney, Herbert E. Walker III, “He believes that because the indictment was filed out of Tampa, that’s where the case should be defended.”

According to sources Banton Banton did not speak at the hearing, except to reply, “Yes, sir,” to the judge’s questions about his real name and age, and confirmed to U.S. Magistrate Judge William Turnoff that he was waiving his bail hearing in Miami to be transferred to Tampa.

Banton is accused along with two others of allegedly attempting to buy more than five kilograms of cocaine from an undercover law enforcement officer in Sarasota last week, a charge he has “vigorously” denied.
