Reading Tent to be centerpiece of Jamaica Independence Weekend Activities at Negril on The Green
HOLLYWOOD – Negril on the Green located at 315 S 62 Ave in Hollywood, Florida will host a full weekend of activities to celebrate Jamaica’s 51st Independence.
The weekend kicks off with a n Independence dance party starting at 10 on Friday August 2nd featuring Ron Burke “The Musical Messiah” entertaining the audience with Jamaican festival songs, house party style format of an eclectic mix of music and his trademark “gospel in the dance hall” segment.
Saturday August 3 from 11 am to 7pm will feature the Negril Family Fun day. Free popcorn, cotton candy, bounce house, petting zoo. Performances include Nikesha Lindo daughter of veteran producer Willie, Sons of Mystro, brothers who play reggae, hip hop and a vast repertoire of music on the violin and Steve Higgins, one of Dem 3 Jamaican tenors with traditional Jamaican folk songs. The afternoon will be hosted by DJ C Roy the Entertainer 11am-7pm.
The centerpiece of the day will be the Reading Tent where adults will read to children from their favorite book. Commissioner Winston Barnes, radio personalities Pat Montague and John T, Dr. Sue (Ode to Ms. Lou), Nikesha Lindo, Tanya Ragbeer, Glenn Joseph, Patrice Latour are some of the participants.
The Wellness corner will feature free physical evaluations by Goldson Spine and Rehab and natural products and remedies from Weight and Wellness Pharmacy. Children attending the event will get a chance to showcase their knowledge of Jamaican history and culture and perform on stage. There will be Jamaican memorabilia and cultural items on display.
Antique Cars of south Florida will showcase their classic cars on Sunday August 4 from 3pm. The weekend culminates on Sunday with Sunset in Negril featuring lovers rock Colin Roache launching his new album and Soundstation Band live outdoors on Negril’s 5 acre golf course from 6pm-11pm with after party indoors with DJ Tony Owens.
There will be lots of food on sale throughout the weekend for patrons including jerk pork, jerk chicken, roast fish fry fish, festival, soup, corn, hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken tenders.
