PM Douglas says Ricky Skerritt among Caribbean government nominees for WICB

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Minister of Tourism and International Transport and a former West Indies Cricket Manager, Sen. the Hon. Richard “Ricky” Skerritt is among nominees to sit on the West Indies Cricket Board.

This from St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, who said Minister Skerritt was been “modest” in responding to questions from the Communications Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister (CUOPM) following the return of the St. Kitts and Nevis delegation from the 24th Inter-Sessional Meeting of Caribbean Heads of Government in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Minister Skerritt said he was fortunate to have found himself “going back into my old, very passionate role in West Indies Cricket,” when he participated at the CARICOM Meeting, and the discussion related to West Indies Cricket.

“There was an item on the agenda that related to matters outstanding to do with West Indies Cricket. So while I sat through the entire agenda and several of the items were new to me and very awareness building for me, I was able to participate actively in at least two of the agenda items based on my current and past areas of responsibility,” said Minister Skerritt.

But during the interview in the VIP Lounge at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, Prime Minister Douglas, who led the delegation, disclosed that Caribbean leaders “had taken a decision during discussion on cricket, that we would need now to have a Government Representative or Director representing the Government sitting on the Board.”

“I and I would say to you that Senator Hon. Skerritt was one of the persons who was nominated for consideration by the Heads of Government. I think sometime later, we would hear the outcome of this,” said Dr. Douglas.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister said: “St. Kitts and Nevis is very pleased to put forward his name. Given his experience and given the significance, I think the contribution that he has been involved in particular, in preparing our venues here for the hosting of World Cup Matches in 2007.”
