Peace Corp director pays a visit to Governor General of Saint Lucia

ST. LUCIA – The 17th director of the Peace Corps is currently visiting St. Lucia as part of an Eastern Caribbean tour.

Ronald Tschetter, who is actively involved in public service and volunteerism, is the 3rd director in the history of the Peace Corps who has previously served as a volunteer within the service.

During his visit to the island, Mr. Tschetter met with the Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy, Governor General of St. Lucia.

Dame Pearlette expressed her desire to ensure the sustainability of the Peace Corp programme in St. Lucia, and commended the director and his accompanying group on their contributions thus far.

The Governor General noted that although the Peace Corp volunteers were initially concentrated in the education sector, but have expanded their reach to broader and more non-traditional areas, and that, she says, is something she welcomes.

Dame Pearlette applauded the effort of the Peace Corp volunteers to engage in complete immersion as they live and work with St. Lucians. She indicated that a major strength of the programme is the spirit of community fostered by the interaction.

Mr. Tschetter expressed his gratitude to the Governor General for the verbal exchange, and articulated his enthusiasm about the continued development of Peace Corp volunteers in St. Lucia.
