OAS Secretary General Visits Jamaica

WASHINGTON, DC – Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, will visit Jamaica on Tuesday (October 27) to participate in the inaugural ceremony of the Fifth Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture and Rural Life in the Americas.

Secretary General Insulza will deliver a speech during the ceremony. Other participants will include the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Bruce Golding; the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Dr. Christopher Tufton; and the Director General of the Inter-American Institute of Cooperation for Agriculture (IICA), Chelston Brathwaite.

The Ministerial Meeting is the most important hemispheric forum for reaching agreement on priorities and strategic actions, for the sustainable development of agriculture and rural life in the hemisphere.

Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Dr. Christopher Tufton, extended the invitation to the Secretary General to visit Jamaica during the conference and make a contribution, while he was in the United States in September. Mr.Insulza will return to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday (October 28)
