Nominations for Jamaica’s Governor General’s Achievement Award Now Open

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Nominations are being accepted for the Governor-General’s Achievement Award (GGAA).  The GGAA, a component of the Governor-General’s Programme For Excellence (GGPE), will be awarded to two (2) persons at a ceremony to be held during the sixth (6th) Biennial National Diaspora Conference to be held from June 13-18, at the Convention Center, in Montego Bay. One recipient  will be in the 18-35 year category and the other over 35 years.

The Governor-General’s Achievement Award  honours and recognizes the positive contribution of persons within the Jamaican Diaspora community to the development of that community and, also, to Jamaica. To be eligible, persons must be Jamaican nationals and have had a positive impact on the community in which they reside. In addition, they should not have made this contribution as an appointed or elected City, State or Federal official, nor have received a Jamaican national honour.  Persons must be nominated by an individual or a Jamaican affiliated organization in the country of residence. Application forms are available from Jamaican Consulates, Embassies or High Commissions in Canada, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom, as well as via the internet at www.kingshouse.gov.jm.

Submissions should indicate the reason for the nomination, including the contribution that the nominee has made to the community, and any other related information that might assist the Selection Committee in its decision.  The completed forms and supporting documents are to be submitted to the Jamaican foreign mission office in the respective overseas community by Thursday, April 30, 2015.
