KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Dr. the Honourable Ronald Robinson has welcomed new measures introduced by the Customs Department to facilitate the processing of Returning Residents.
The initiatives implemented this month, followed representation made by Minister Robinson to Custom Authorities earlier this year.

The representation was in response to a request from returning residents, specifically with respect to senior citizens, during a biannual meeting last July, between Minister Robinson and representatives of national and Regional Returning Residents/Citizens Association at the Foreign Ministry.
“I am pleased to know that the Customs Authorities have moved quickly to introduce these measures to improve the processing of our returning residents, who are returning home to join families and friends further lend support to building our beloved country.
“We will continue to partner with customs and all agencies to ensure that our returning residents are facilitated effectively and smoothly on their return.”
The improved system has resulted in designated cashiers at the King Port Building and at APM Terminal, Port Bustamante, the appointment of a customs officer to deal with the releasing of returning residents’ cargoes and other special arrangements to facilitate retuning residents including those making electronic payment.
