New Chinese Ambassador pledges closer cooperation with Antigua and Barbuda

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Antigua and Barbuda His Excellency Mr. Chen Ligang on Monday pledged his government’s continued cooperation with Antigua and Barbuda.

Ambassador Chen during a meeting this morning with Prime Minister Spencer said that China cherishes its relations with Antigua and Barbuda and he will endeavor to ensure that the relations grow from strength to strength.

He also highlighted Antigua and Barbuda’s growth over the years and China‘s cooperation in the areas of sports and educational development.

Ambassador Chen also brought greetings from China’s President Hu Jintao on the country’s celebration of its twenty-sixth anniversary of Independence.

Prime Minister Spencer welcomed the Chinese Ambassador and expressed his government’s willingness to continue working towards advancing the relationship that exist between both countries.

“The People’s Republic of China and Antigua and Barbuda have been friends for a very long time and my government will work towards ensuring that the great relations that exist between our two countries is nurtured to the benefit of both of our peoples,” said Prime Minister Spencer.

The country’s leader also extended congratulations to Ambassador Chen on his government’s recently successful Party Congress which elected new leaders to govern the affairs of China.

Ambassador Chen Ligang’s posting in Antigua and Barbuda is his first official diplomatic mission. He has worked in Chinese Embassies in Lesotho, Sultante of Oman, the Republic of Ireland and the United States.
