Natural Disasters of the Caribbean Exhibition on display
MIAMI – Natural disasters is nothing new to the Caribbean. HistoryMiami has captured historical images of disasters that have impacted the Caribbean.
The Natural Disasters of the Caribbean, 1495-2010 exhibition will be on display through August 29 at HistoryMiami 101C West Flagler Street in Miami. Natural Disasters of the Caribbean, 1495-2010 explores earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and hurricanes the people of the Caribbean have endured.
This exhibition will present images and objects relating to historic disasters, beginning with the first recorded event—a ca. 1500 hurricane described by Christopher Columbus. Prints, photographs and images from HistoryMiami’s collections will illustrate various natural disasters, including the 1690 and 1907 Jamaica earthquakes; the 1902 St Vincent and 1904 Martinique volcanic eruptions; and the 1926 Bahamas and Cuba hurricanes.
