Montserrat Welcomes New Charter Air Service

Caribbean island offers more airlift options

Brades, Montserrat – Montserrat Airways Limited (MA Ltd.), a new airline charter service, officially began flight operations on May 30, 2009.

With grant funding provided by the Tourism Challenge Fund, the carrier, operating under the name Fly Montserrat, is providing both visitors and residents with additional flight options to and from the island.

“Air travel is a critical element to the tourism industry in Montserrat,” said Ernestine Cassell, director of tourism. “We are pleased to see that Fly Montserrat is making the island more accessible by providing the traveling public with additional flight options.”

Montserrat Airways received its Air Operator’s certificate from Air Safety Support International, the civil aviation authority based in the United Kingdom, on May 28, confirming that the airline has achieved the highest ratings for air safety and flight operations.

According to the managing director of Montserrat Airways, Captain Nigel Harris, “A Montserrat based airline, will provide the stability, reliability and flexibility to conveniently and quickly get visitors to Montserrat as well as other islands. The development of tourist-related services will be a top priority for the company.”

The airline will offer the following services:

– Vital Air Ambulance evacuations 24/7
– Urgent freight movements
– Additional capacity at peak periods
– On-demand charter direct to Antigua and other islands
– Day trips, to and from the island

Charter service costs range from $767 to $4,400 USD, depending on island gateway.
