FORT LAUDERDALE – Montego Bay High School International Alumnae Association (MBHSIAA) proudly announced today the launch of its major 2011 fundraising effort through an Inaugural Gala & Grand Reunion at The Westin Fort Lauderdale Hotel in Fort Lauderdale on Oct. 21-23, 2011.

An epic weekend of activities is scheduled to support the formal Grand Gala event at The Westin on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at 7 p.m. and, already, more than 400 Montego Bay High School (MBHS) alumnae have confirmed their attendance for what promises to be an unforgettable event that will reunite old “Mo-Bay High” classmates and friends after as many as 30 years!

MBHS Alumnae expected to descend on South Fla. in droves from Jamaica and the world over on Oct. 21-23, 2011

Events kick off on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at The Westin with a “Meet & Greet” scheduled from 8 p.m. till 12:30 a.m. and will culminate in a “Farewell Beach Picnic” at the John U. Lloyd Beach Park in Dania Beach on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, between noon and 6 p.m. The formal Inaugural Gala at The Westin on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, and these attendant events mark the major annual fundraising effort for the MBHSIAA. Donna Redway (née Curling), current principal of MBHS – herself a MBHS alumna – will deliver the keynote address at the gala, and other distinguished guests such as Sandra Grant-Griffiths, the Consul General of Jamaica in Miami are expected to join in the festivities.

All proceeds from this fundraising effort are earmarked for ongoing projects at MBHS in Montego Bay, Jamaica, including the restoration of the school’s chemistry lab and the purchase of computers and associated peripherals for the school’s computer lab.

“South Florida is the perfect setting for our Inaugural Gala & Grand Reunion weekend,” said Karen Morris-Clarke, president and chairman of the MBHSIAA board. “We have tremendous numbers of alumnae living in South Florida but are delighted with the outpouring of support that has been pledged and is anticipated from our alumnae from as far away as Canada and Britain.

The Westin Fort Lauderdale promises the kind of elegant ambiance and sophistication our alumnae would expect as the backdrop for this kind of formal affair, and we are thankful for our official sponsors like Sunset Beach Resort (formerly Seawind Hotel) in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Shaw Park Beach Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, who believe in our cause and have graciously contributed incredible family vacation getaways to be auctioned at our events throughout the weekend.”

MBHSIAA maintains a Facebook group page for its alumnae and provides regular updates on all alumnae activities and events. This Inaugural Gala & Grand Reunion event is no exception. The rush of excitement is already building there as alumnae anticipate meeting up with old classmates. Many, in fact, are actively soliciting and encouraging old friends to come out for this auspicious occasion. “Without a doubt, this will be the highlight of my year,” said Blossom White-Dobson, Class of 1973. “If I have to ride, bike or row from New York City, this is one opportunity I won’t let pass me by, and I am actively encouraging every ‘old girl’ I link up with to come also!”

MBHSIAA

Montego Bay High School International Alumnae Association, Inc. (MBHSIAA) is the preeminent umbrella organization supporting chapters of Montego Bay High School alumnae groups throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. We organized not just to promote networking and foster camaraderie among affiliate members but also to identify and satisfy some of the longstanding needs of our alma mater, which federal and local government funding in a country like Jamaica does not even begin to address adequately. We take pleasure in inculcating school pride and promoting the value of connectedness to our alma mater in ways that ensure future generations of girls will continue to pass through the same revered halls we hold in such high esteem and take their place as stalwarts in our society, both in Jamaica and abroad.
