Miami Leaders to Commemorate the Life of Nelson Mandela

MIAMI – To celebrate Nelson Mandela’s legacy, Miami’s community leaders have united to arrange the Mandela Miami Memorial Service and Celebration at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, Knight Concert Hall.

The event, taking place on Thursday, Dec. 12, will be free and open to the public.

Hosted by a coalition of local civic leaders, including Dr. Nelson Adams, Marlon Hill, Tony Argiz, Tere Blanca, Jaret Davis, Wendy Grant, J. Ricky Arriola, Saif Ishoof, Dave Lawrence, Mike Tomas, Markenzy Lapointe, H.T. Smith, and the Knight Foundation, this event will provide a forum for all members of the community to pay tribute to this beloved world leader.

In the spirit of unity that Mandela embodied, local influencers from all sectors of Miami’s multi-ethnic and religious community are welcome to attend this important community convening.

“Global leaders like Nelson Mandela come once in many generations; his perseverance, leadership and wisdom will echo through pages of history. We share with South Africa the loss of this great man,” stated Dr. Nelson Adams. “It is with the utmost respect that we, along with the global community, reflect on his tireless determination to improve humanity and say farewell to this great mentor.”

The event will be taking place from 4-6 p.m. at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, Knight Concert Hall, located at 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami.

Complimentary parking will be available for in the Miami Parking Authority Lot C of the Center (located on the south-side of the Arsht Center next to 395).
