Miami-Dade County Mayor To Host 2010 Census Kick-Off

MIAMI – Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez along with local municipal mayors, Miami Gardens Mayor Shirley Gibson and North Miami Mayor Andre Pierre, Miami-Dade’s Complete Count Committee Members, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, School Board Vice Chair Perla Tabares Hantman and Cheryl Little, Executive Director and Founder of the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Coalition will be hosting a Census Kick-Off at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center located at 6161 NW 22nd Ave., in Miami, on Friday, Feb. 12th at 10 a.m.

The census determines the amount of federal funds the County receives for public safety, transportation and other county programs. Additionally, the Census determines the districts of the state legislature and the number of seats that Florida will have in the United States Congress.

“Everyone needs to be counted,” said Mayor Alvarez. “Miami-Dade County is a hard to count area, but we committed to ensuring the census count is as accurate and complete as possible.”
