Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board to host emergency summit on Haiti
MIAMI – The current situation in Haiti including severe food shortages and the resulting violence and political unrest has created a humanitarian crisis we in Miami-Dade County cannot ignore.
In view of this immediate crisis and the long-standing issues in the country of Haiti, the Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board along with the Haitian American Grassroots Coalition, the Miami-Dade NAACP, Haitian Women of Miami, Inc and the City of Miami Community Relations Board will convene an “Emergency Summit on Haiti” this Friday, May 9.
Grassroots leaders, community activists and elected officials have been invited to develop a response to be implemented by this community. Participants will focus on both short-term and long-term solutions to help relieve the present crisis and to help restore economic sustainability to the country.
The Summit agenda will include workgroups and discussions on: Immediate Relief of the Current Food Crisis; Mobilization for Passage of the Jubilee Act Debt Forgiveness Bill; Support for Temporary Protected Status; and Economic Sustainability Platforms for the Democratic and Republican Parties.
Detailed action plans will be developed by each workgroup including assignments for organizations and individuals with specific deadlines for completion.
