Miami Dade College (MDC) Students Travel to Jamaica for Medical Mission
MIAMI – Dental hygiene and opticianry faculty and students from Miami Dade College recently traveled to Mandeville, Jamaica to provide dental and vision services to more than 700 children and adults.
The Lions clubs of Mandeville and Saint Elizabeth sponsored the events where 315 patients received vision screenings. MDC students have received donations from frame vendors and lens manufacturers to create 130 glasses on campus for the patients.
Oral health screenings were also provided to 430 patients to identify cavities, provide dental cleanings and administer dental facility referrals if needed. Homecare aids and instructions were also provided. All supplies were donated by local Miami-based dental companies.
