Miami Commissioner reaches out to Haiti with “Haitian Relief Day”

MIAMI – Commissioner Dorrin D. Rolle invites District 2 families to join him for “Haitian Relief Day” on Saturday, September 27 at North Miami Avenue between 79 Street and 82 Street from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This free community gathering, sponsored by Nopin Long Distance, will bring awareness to Haiti’s plight after devastating storms ravaged the island and collect food and other goods to be shipped there.

“Hurricane Ike was the fourth storm to hit Haiti this season, leaving hundreds dead, and thousands more in need of food and water,” said Commissioner Rolle. “If there was ever a time for Miami-Dade residents to show their compassion and help a neighbor in need, this is it.”

Attendees are urged to donate non-perishable goods – like canned food, rice, powdered milk, water, and medical supplies – at the event, where they will be shipped to Haiti with the help of the Haitian American Emergency Relief Committee (HAERC). HAERC went to Haiti last month and delivered food collected at Commissioner Rolle’s previous event, Haitian Fest.

In addition, famed Haitian musician Sweet Micky, as well as Hangout, Gabel, and Nu Look, will give live performances. Parents can also take their children to the Kids Corner, with lots of activities for little ones to enjoy.
