Soca Gold 2014 Debuted at #1 on U.S. Billboard Reggae Album Chart

NEW YORK -Soca Gold 2014 (May 27, VP Records) landed the #1 spot on the U.S. Billboard Reggae Album chart during its first week. For almost two decades, the annual soca series has been the ultimate Carnival soundtrack from the Caribbean islands.

“We’re happy and proud about the #1 debut this year” said Edwin Howell, A&R Director for VP Records. “Soca Gold CD sales have been very steady over the past few years and this year we took a big jump on digital. Soca is a movement and this music is getting bigger,” he continues.

This year’s collection opens with the self-proclaimed Viking of Soca Bunji Garlin’s latest single “Carnival Tabanca” then Farmer Nappy’s groovy soca tune “Big People Party” that came in second for Road March at this year’s Trinidad & Tobago Carnival competition. The collection also features the body-moving anthem “Done D Party” from Fay-Ann Lyons and party starters like “Shake Dat” by Sass feat. Jojo and “Monster Winer” by Kerwin Du Bois & Lil Rick.

Soca Gold 2014 also contains a DVD filled with electrifying live performances from this year’s Trinidad & Tobago Carnival plus nine steamy soca music videos from the collection.
