MIA Welcomes World’s Largest Passenger Airliner June 10

MIAMI – On Friday, June 10, Miami-Dade County and Lufthansa Airlines officials will welcome the inaugural Miami International Airport arrival of the airline’s Airbus A380, the largest passenger airliner in the world and the first in a new generation of fuel-efficient aircraft. MIA is the fifth airport in the nation and the first in the southeast U.S. to obtain A380 service.

Lufthansa will use the double-deck aircraft for its daily nonstop service between Frankfurt and Miami. Lufthansa’s A380 is configured to seat 420 passengers in economy class, 98 in business class, and eight in first class for a total of 526 seats. It is also the world’s most fuel-efficient aircraft, burning approximately 12 percent less fuel than any other commercial aircraft.

The aircraft boasts two large, luxurious bathrooms on the upper deck with separate changing and restroom areas and a main-deck economy class that features in-seat video screens on a slender seat back for additional passenger space.
