Local University of Miami Graduate wins $10,000 in ROXY ‘Follow Your Heart Tour’ competition

MIAMI – Just what dreams are made of. When local Miami water baby Daniell Washington entered the ROXY ‘Follow Your Heart Tour’ competition presented by Schick® Quattro for Women® this month, little did she know that she would melt the hearts and impact the panel of judges to the tune of $10,00.00 – enabling her to
follow her heart!

Earlier this month, Danni entered the ROXY ‘Follow Your Heart Tour’ competition presented by Schick® Quattro for Women® a contest driven by the ‘Follow Your Heart Tour’ a 12-location tour intended to inspire girls to go after their dreams.

When she received the call that she had won, she remarked “I couldn’t breathe. When I got the call I was overwhelmed with joy. There were a bunch of different emotions – crying, laughing, thankfulness and pure shock – it was unreal!”

Danni is an amazing young woman with Jamaican roots and is currently residing in Miami Beach, FL. She has been following her heart for many years spreading the message of ocean conservation.

She wants to get the word out even further by hosting her own children’s TV show about the ocean and finally her prayers have been answered.

This 21 year old is a tall drink of water. Her expectations for herself and those around her are high. A recent University of Miami Graduate (Double Major in Marine Science and Biology), world traveler (South Africa, Galapagos Islands, Machu Picchu & more), Daniell Washington has dedicated her studies, her free time and her creative energies to become a spokesperson for the ocean.

“I want to be the ‘Green Marine spokes chick’ for getting the word out about preserving our precious resource. The ocean is so vast, so beautiful and so mysterious – but many people don’t realize how much our lives depend on it. Our society as a whole needs to change its perspective. I want to focus on the children. They are the ones that will really make the change. Media is the fastest and most efficient way to communicate. This is why I want to become a TV host for a children’s show focusing saving the ocean and it wonderful creatures.”

She will be using the $10K prize to create a compelling pilot to pitch to the big name TV networks and get her show off the ground, to establish a great production crew, complete her Dive Master Certification (one the highest levels of certification for diving) and lastly, to initiate a national marine education tour.

“I see myself traveling to schools (especially in coastal cities) talking to kids about ocean conservation and raising their awareness about becoming environmental stewards in their own communities. This would also serve as a major avenue to promote my show; “What Would YOU Do for the Big Blue. I can see it now! My team and I driving from school to school in an ocean-themed, wrapped hybrid vehicle!”
