The exhibition, curated by Marie Vickles, LHCC’s Curator-in-Residence, and organized by Romuald Blanchard of Lobey Art and Travel, will feature the works of Haitian visual artist Florestal Evens. It explores the rich history and significance of the Vèvè symbols as catalytic elements of the Haitian Revolution and subsequent establishment of the first free Black state in the New World founded by self-liberated African slaves.

The Little Haiti Cultural Center presents a yearly exhibition during the month of February to celebrate and pay tribute to the history and contributions of people from the African Diaspora.

A warm invitation is extended to the Miami-Dade school board and other educators to bring students out to enjoy not only the exhibit, but interactive workshops on Haitian history and dance, West African drumming and dance, and Capoeira. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public.
