Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes awards $15,000 in scholarships to eight graduating seniors
The Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes awarded eight graduating high school seniors with $15,000 in scholarships at a meeting at the Lauderdale Lakes Community Council on Tuesday June 7.
Each year the club has awarded scholarships to college bound students from Boyd Anderson High School, Plantation High School, and Piper High School from funds raised at the club’s annual Charity Ball. To date, the Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes has given $55,000 to students from these Broward county schools.
Scholarship Chair Shari N. Hines remarked, “The Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that we have had one of our most successful scholarship programs yet and for the first time since the club’s inception the scholarships were open to the entire Broward County School District.”
This year’s student awardees were, Jenna Ali of Boyd Anderson ($5,000.00)-For the Excellence Scholarship; Shardé Chambers of Stranahan, Hamza Shaban of Plantation, Laura Golden of Flanagan and Amanda Gonzalez of Flanagan for $1,000.00 each. For the Randy Johnson Second Effort Scholarship – $1,000.00 was given to Benson Myrtil of Boyd Anderson and $1,000.00 to Andre Dennis – North Lauderdale Charter High School. Along with Whitsyms Nursing Registry, the club also awarded a $4,000.00 scholarship to Lydel Wright of Blanche Ely High School.
