Jamaica USA Chamber sponsors free Community Assistance workshops

Miami, FL – The Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and the Minority Business Development Center (MBDC) to host a series of Disaster Loan Assistance Workshops to help small businesses, nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters gain access to low-interest loans.

Homeowners and nonprofits can qualify for “Disaster Loans” from the SBA to repair physical damage to their properties, or to cover the cost of their insurance deductibles. Renters can also qualify for physical damage to personal property. These loans can be up to $200,000 at interest as low as 2.6%, with repayment as long as 30 years.

Small Businesses can qualify for up to $1.5 million at interest rates as low as 4% for up to 30 years. Loans are available to businesses that sustained physical damage such as roofing, windows, awnings, flooring, plumbing, electrical. Physical damage also includes damage to inventory, office equipment and furniture.

Small Businesses can also apply for “Disaster Loans” to address economic injury/loss of business as a result of Hurricane Wilma.

The Community Assistance Workshops will provide details on the SBA’s Disaster Loans. Information will be shared on Post-Hurricane Jobs still available in Monroe, Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Technical Assistance in completing applications and follow-up will be provided by the MBDC and the Jamaica USA Chamber.

Workshop presenters will include officials from the U.S. Small Business Administration, FEMA, Workforce One, and the Minority Business Development Center. One-on-one assistance will be provided and presenters will address questions from the audience.
