Kingston City Run Provides Jamaica’s Capital With A Buzz

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s capital city Kingston was abuzz with excitement recently as over 2,000 runners converged on the business district of New Kingston for the Kingston City Run 5K Run/Walk and half marathon.

Now in its second year, the event provides runners a scenic tour of the capital including places of interest such as Devon House, King’s House and Bob Marley Museum.

Sponsored by the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), the event is organized by the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) Kingston Chapter.

KINGSTON CITY RUN ATTRACTS CELEBRITY

Reigning Miss Jamaica World Gina Hargitay is all smiles before heading off to compete in the Kingston City Run 5K recently. Held under the patronage of Kingston’s Mayor, Senator Councillor Angella Brown-Burke, Miss Hargitay served as one of the celebrity ambassadors of this year’s event.

Proceeds from the event will go towards helping the homeless through the following charities: Missionaries of the Poor, Open Arms Drop-in Centre, Food for the Poor, Marie Atkins Night Shelter and Alpha Boys Home.


AND THEY’RE OFF – Over 2,000 runners converged on the business district of New Kingston for the Kingston City Run 5K Run/Walk and half marathon.


KINGSTON CITY RUN WINNERS CIRCLE – Sheldon Cox and Cherry White (front row) were the top male & female in the wheelchair category in the second staging of the Kingston City Run. Rounding out the winners were: Kirk Brown (1:12.33) and Danielle James (1:30.15) in the half marathon; Juliette Dinnal (23.24) and Shawn Pitter (17.15) in the 5K run and Andre Smith (29.24) and Nyasha Heaven (36.08) in the 5K walk. Sharing the occasion were major sponsors the Jamaica Tourist Board, represented by Maureen Smith (2nd row far left), and Norman Manley International Airport, represented by Yvonne Sweeney (2nd row far right). Chair of the Kingston City Run Organizing Committee Nicola Madden-Greig (2ndrow 2nd left), was all smiles following the event’s culmination.
