“JUMP UP” into Curaçao Carnival 2006

For the first time ever vacationers can join the Grand Parade and enjoy the Carnival festivities like a local

WILLEMSTAD, CURAÇAO – Vacationers can escape the snow and sleet this winter and enjoy paradise while experiencing and celebrating decades of tradition and culture during Curaçao’s 2006 Carnival season. This year, for the first time ever, spectators now have a chance to take part in Carnival by joining the season’s highlight, the Grand Parade.

During Curaçao’s 2006 Carnival season, which opens January 6 and continues through February 28, vacationers will enjoy special hotel packages, parades, floats, and one of the most lively and flamboyant celebrations in the Caribbean. Carnival celebrations reach their height during the Grand Carnival Week, February 19-26, during which time Curaçao visitors will have a chance to participate in the Grand Parade.

Carnival 2006 highlights include an eight-week whirlwind of festivities:

Carnival Jump -Ups, weekend street dances and parties (Feb. 4 – Feb. 18)

Tumba Festival, a music competition that determines the official Carnival song (Jan. 30 – Feb.3)

Carnival Warm-Up Parade & Party in Willemstad, the parade will make its way to Willemstad, the ultimate Carnival party town, with brass bands and tumba music (Feb. 23)

Carnival Parade at Banda Bou, a full day of revelry in the streets (Feb. 25)

Grand Carnival Parade, considered the “tour de force” of the season with non-stop street parties all day long (Feb. 26)

Rei Momo, the burning of King Momo, a symbol for infertility, sins, and bad luck, this straw-filled king is burned in a spectacular ritual at the end of the Farewell Grand Parade complete with fireworks (Feb. 28)
