JN Money Transfer Remittance Fees Waived for donations to the Jamaica National Recovery Fund

KINGSTON, Jamaica – In a move to facilitate overseas donations to the Jamaican government’s post Gustav Recovery Programme, JN Money Services Limited (JNMS), operator of JN International Money Transfer, has waived fees for sending donations to the Jamaica National Recovery Fund.

The waiver, which is in effect until the end of October, applies to donations originating from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, and The Cayman Islands.

Earl Jarrett, General Manager
According to Earl Jarrett, general manager of JNMS parent company, Jamaica National Building Society, the move is to facilitate the altruism of Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica living in the Diaspora.

“Given the international response to the plight of those affected, we are providing an effective avenue for members of the Jamaican Diaspora to play a role in JamaicaR17;s recovery. The monies will be used to fund the restoration of schools and hospitals which have been impacted by Gustav. These donations will play a critical role in stimulating national development in the aftermath of the storm,” he said.

He suggested that with a network of some 180 agents in the major sending countries overseas, JN International Money Transfer is well-placed to facilitate donations from the Diaspora, and added that local contributions can also be sent via JN Money International Transfer at JNBS branches and JN Money Shops locations across the island. The account number is 10272794.

He said the initiative is being publicized across groups in the Diaspora and will be the focus of an international promotional campaign.

Mr. Jarrett pointed out that facilitating remittances at no cost is just one aspect of Jamaica National’s contribution to the recovery process. He said several initiatives have been implemented across the JN Group to bring relief to mortgagors and clients impacted by the storm.

“JN Small Business Loans has developed a disaster mitigation loan and grant programme to assist micro and small business clients who have suffered loss. The company is currently assessing the level of damage to the operations of its clients in a bid to identify those most in need,” he revealed.

The JNBS Foundation, guided by its rural re-generation focus will implement a multi-faceted programme to assist the farming communities of St. Mary, Portland and St. Thomas.

“These initiatives will be implemented with the help of government agencies and volunteer agencies such as the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) and the Jamaica Red Cross. These programmes are designed to help residents and entrepreneurs who have been affected to rebuild their lives and the social and economic infrastructure of their communities,” he said.
